The Power BI workflow

The five steps every report follows

  1. Connect to one or more data sources.
  2. Transform the data in Power Query (clean, shape, type).
  3. Model — relate your tables and define measures.
  4. Visualise — build the report on the canvas.
  5. Share — publish to the Service and give people access.

Why the order matters

Beginners jump straight to charts and fight messy data forever. Doing clean → model → measure first makes the visuals almost build themselves. This guide follows that order — and so should you.

What you'll build

A small sales report: a clean data model, a few DAX measures (Total Sales, Sales YTD), and a one-page dashboard you publish and share.
