About this course.
A practical, self-paced start in Power BI for people who have never built a report. You will connect to data, clean it in Power Query, build a small model, write your first measures, design a report page that answers a real question, and publish it so your team can use it. Examples are drawn from everyday Malaysian business work in finance, operations, and sales.
What you'll be able to do.
- ✓Connect Power BI to Excel, CSV, and database sources and load the data
- ✓Clean and reshape messy data in Power Query without changing the source file
- ✓Build a small data model with the right relationships between tables
- ✓Write your first DAX measures and understand how filter context works
- ✓Design a clear report page with visuals, slicers, and a sensible layout
- ✓Publish to the Power BI Service and share a report without leaking data
- ✓Set up a scheduled refresh so the report stays current on its own
Who this course is for.

- ✓Finance, operations, and sales staff who prepare the same reports each month

What learners say.
“I used to spend two days every month on the same sales pack in Excel. After this course I rebuilt it in Power BI and now it refreshes on its own. The Power Query lesson alone was worth it.”
“Clear and to the point. Nothing felt rushed, and the examples matched the kind of messy data I actually deal with. I finally understand what a measure is and why filter context matters.”
“I am not technical at all, but I wanted to read my own numbers without waiting on someone else. I can now build a simple dashboard and share it with my team. Wish there were more practice files, but the teaching is solid.”
“The publishing and refresh lesson saved me from a mistake I was about to make with sharing. Practical advice I have not seen explained this plainly elsewhere.”
Questions, answered.
Do I need any experience with Power BI or coding?
No. This course assumes you are starting from zero. If you can work with a spreadsheet, you can follow along. The small amount of DAX we write is explained step by step.
Do I need to buy Power BI to take this course?
Power BI Desktop is free to download on Windows. Publishing and sharing use the Power BI Service, which has a free tier that is enough to practice everything here.
How long does the course take?
Most learners finish the seven lessons in a few focused sessions. You can go at your own pace and come back to any lesson later.
Will this help me prepare reports for HRDF-claimable training?
This foundations course is a strong base. Our corporate and HRDF programmes go deeper and are delivered as guided cohorts. You can ask us about those from the corporate page.
What should I learn after this?
DAX Fundamentals and Power BI Advanced build directly on what you learn here, going further into measures, modeling, and performance.
